Directions to the Shop
Heart to Heart Quilt Shop is located in Trussville, Alabama...a community on the northeastern
outskirts of Birmingham. To get to the shop from Birmingham, take I-59N to exit 141. Turn right at
the exit onto Chalkville Mountain Road. Then take the first right past the traffic light into the Valley
View Shopping Center. If you are traveling south on I-59 from Chattanooga/Gadsden, you need to
take exit 141 and turn left onto Chalkville Mountain Road. After crossing the bridge, you'll need to
take the first right past the second traffic light into the Valley View Shopping Center. Heart to Heart
is located inside Sew Bizz Sewing Shop.

This is a *huge* discount fabric store that carries many
name brands (i.e. Robert Kaufman, Hoffman and Liberty).
They have aisles and aisles of flat fold fabrics that
go almost to eight feet high with a price of approx.
$1.59/yd. The fabrics on bolts start at $1.98/yd.
Definately a place to visit! I believe that they are
closed on Sundays and are only open until 6 p.m.on
Saturdays. Well worth a trip to Orange County!

I really like this store, it has a good selection of

This is a decent fabric store with some interesting

This is your basic HOF, and the selection can be uneven.
I have found some very nice, higher end, fabrics there and
then sometimes not much at all. A pretty big craft section

A very cool store, best for those who like to browse and paw
through piles of remnants and off-cuts. They have few of the
normal quilters' cotton calicoes, but lots and lots of inter-
esting cotton fabrics, flannels, silks at amazing prices,
decorator fabrics, and fancy ones like velvets, sequins,
laces, etc. There is a companion store in Evanston, just
north of Chicago, which I've never been to but have heard
very good things about. This one is in the south Loop and
easier to get to if you're just visiting. I really enjoy
my visits there.

A differing opinion from the current review listed. This is my favorite quilt shop. They have a great selection of many types of 100% cotton fabrics, including Hoffman, Benartex, Hi-Fashion, Alexander Henry and many more. they have lots of florals, brights & novelties, batiks, solids, flannels, and more. They also stock some wools and fleece. They have a great selection of books, patterns and notions. They are a Bernnina dealer, and their sales staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The store offers many beginning and intermediate classes - mostly in quilting, but also other needlework such as cross stitch and garment construction. This shop is worth a visit!!!

Prints Charming in Long Grove is closed. The store was bought by a new
owner in June 1999, and relocated to the above address in Palatine. The
new store is larger, carries a better variety of quality fabrics, and
continues to offer a nice selection of classes for beginner and
intermediate quilters. They can send your finished quilt tops out for
quilting - the samples in the shop are quite nice. The store is located
just north of Euclid Avenue, and is open 7 days a week, including Tues. and

This place is really something special!
They have Hoffman, Moda, RJR, South Seas, Benartex,
Jenny Beyer, Maywood, Robert Kaufman, Springmaid, Peter Pan,
P&B, Mumms the Word. They also have hundreds of books, magazines,
patterns, and quilting gadgets galore. They do machine quilting
and have all of the supplies. They are friendly, fun, and know
their stuff. Check out Della's dolls or her latest creation,
Sharon's quilting, or Colleen's applique and the ability to select
fabrics for award-winning quilts. While they're definitely a
quilter's haven, they also have really nice fashion and bridal
fabrics. The friendly atmosphere and their big rocking chair make
even non-quilters feel relaxed and comfortable.

I visited the store this past weekend (8/7/98). The store is packed with
all types of notions and wonderful lace. There was an excellent selection
of books on sewing, smocking etc., etc. I loved the selection of fabric, some
of it was sumptuious.
Although I was not buying the owner, Nancy, was very welcoming. I would not hesitate
to buy from this shop.

This store has 6 large rooms full of all kinds of fabric, with 2 rooms full of 100% cotton. They also carry homespuns, silk ribbons, French wired ribbons, a Bridal room, silk, ultra suede, Pendleton wool, Polar Fleece, laces and flannels. It's really easy to find. Take Exit 162A off of I75. This will eventually become a one way street. Turn left at the first light(Saginaw Street)after you cross the bridge and go 4-5 blocks. The store is on the corner of Fifth and Saginaw on the right hand side of the street. There is on street parking and I believe there is a parking lot right across the street from the shop on 5th. Street. This is one of the most fantastic shops I have ever been in and I highly recommend it.

They have the most of every thing. Example: the Hoffman line in all the different colors available. There so much fabric in one store that it makes you shake. Calicos, bridal fabrics, home dec stuff, millions of buttons, rickrack in all sizes and colors. Prices are good, too. Just west of Charlotte, NC, off of Interstate 85. Just north of the SC line. Worth the drive from anywhere. you really have to see it to believe it.
Anything in the world you can think of, she has in abundance. People charter buses for whole guilds, customers of sewing machine shops, quilt shops etc. to go there. I have a friend who vends at major quilt shows and I know she buys lots of stuff that's hard to find there. AND - it's less expensive than anywhere I've ever been!

This is my absolutely favorite quilt shop in all of the United States. It
is in a wonderful old building that was a Hardware Store at one time. The
shop has the original wooden floors, many of the old wooden shelves and a
fantastic old cash register. The shop is owned by a delightful woman. I
would visit this shop when at my aging mother's home. In her last days she
would sit in the car while I ran in. The owner ALWAYS went to the car to
see her and visit with her. Now doesn't this sound like the quilters you
know? The fabrics are fantastic, a very complete line. Wonderful patterns,
lots of made up local samples not available anywhere else. Comfortable
chairs and lots of magazines for patient husbands! If you are within 50
miles it is worth the trip!

In Norman (my neck of the woods) there is Patchwork Place. From I-35
headed South, take the Main street downtown exit (eastbound). Go through
town until Main street turns into a one-way street. Go to the left lane.
You will pass over a set of Rail Road tracks. Take the FIRST left (Jones
Street) directly after the tracks. Patchwork Place will be the building
on the right as you come to Gray Street. Gray is one-way, the opposite
direction of Main. Follow it to get back to main and back out of town.

corner of Penn & Britton Rd.). It's owned and operated by Carole Jo
Evans and Barbara Stanfield, and is easily accessible from all the

Quiltwork Patches is already listed, but the store deserves a review. It is the best quilt store I've visited. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and the owner makes a point to learn and remember your name (sometimes after one visit!). The store is crammed full of fabulous fabrics, lots of thread, and good books. I learned how to quilt in their classes, and they have a UFO Friday class. This store is definitely worth a visit.

Prices start at .50 cents a yard and remnants range from .25 to 5 yards. This is the place to go for any decorating, crafting or sewing enthusiast. Get there early because they are only open from 8-5 Monday through Saturday. You will spend hours there.

My God, I think I've died and gone to quilter's heaven! I can't imagine anything I would want for my
quilting addiction that I couldn't find here! They claim 5000 bolts, and I believe it! From the
outside, it looks like another boring stripmall store - from the inside, it's set up like a house and is
filled with nicely arranged fabric. Brights, novelties, flannels, beautiful 100% cottons, batiks; lots of
books and patterns; not too many notions; some cotton thread (including all colors of Star thread),
but a full selection of polyester thread. What's the deal with that??? All the major fabric
manufacturers and designers are represented, and many unique and different lines, too. They must
buy closeouts from the factories as well, since I noticed many bolts from older lines that I haven't
seen elsewhere in 2-3 years. Maybe they can help some of us with those UFO's (unfinished
objects!). The day I was in, the staff was too busy making fat quarter packets and chatting among themselves to offer to help me - maybe you can't have everything. Lots of classes on their
schedule, and many, many models displayed.

It's just about 35 miles north of Houston. It must
have over 2,000 bolts of fabric...very conveniently
displayed. I can't explain *exactly* why I like it so much,
but the bolts are in long rows of color families...
not broken up into several displays. It makes it very easy
to find exactly the right ones. They have a BIG selection of the latest books
and magazines and a huge assortment of patterns for quilts, dolls and other
textile projects...lots of classes. It has great lighting....the fabric
colors are "true".
I don't know the owners of this shop, but the women there are always very
welcoming (a very "Texas" trait)....and friendly. There are some other shops
in my area that are better known, but somehow they seem to have an "elite"
aire about them. I like Plain and Fancy a lot....hmmmmm...maybe I could run

more quilting fabric than I've ever seen in one
place. A little pricey (books sold for above retail),
but great service. FQs are 1.99, classes are taught
(I've never taken one), very friendly staff.
If you're in town you must stop!
I find them very knowledgeable, they have a large selection of patterns, books, and fabrics.
This was my best experience of any craft/quilt/fabric store visit.

retail shops are near to entertain hubby!! There are bolts and bolts of
fabrics. I had just come from Keepsake Quilts and Norton House has more
fabric and friendlier ladies. There are many pre-packaged kits, lots of
fat 1/4's and 1/8's. I was touring the New England states and had been to
at least a dozen shops, but here I saw fabrics that I had never seen.
There is a large selection on flannel. Up stairs are bolts and bolts of
sale fabrics that most shops have in their everyday stock for regular
price. Good prices!!!! They must have every 30's fabric that has been
made. The presentation is attractive and colors flow well together. She
has cute lamps, etc. and other objects in her arrangement. It is like
stepping back in time and being on the cutting edge at the same time. They
have fabric clubs and mail all over the world. If in the area, this one
should not be missed.

Racine. When you enter, it seems they carry mostly country-style fabrics -
all 100% cotton, lots of dark, earthy colors. They have a room filled with
flannels, another room that has had various reproduction lines each time
I've visited (but the selection changes frequently, and the style of the
prints can vary quite a lot). Upstairs - WOW! A room of brights - kids'
prints and more sophisticated prints, but arranged beautifully. Also, a
room dedicated to Christmas fabrics, and another filled with baby prints
and soft pastels. They have great samples made up, and usually have kits
packaged up so you can replicate the samples. They also sell needlework
supplies, patterns, and books for needlework and quilting. From I-94, take
the Highway 20 exit; go approx. 7 miles east into Racine. The store is on
the right-hand (south) side of the street next to a bakery. On-street
meter parking, and more parking in back. Worth a visit!

Wonderful range of fabrics. All the staff I have

store, have given excellent advice. Many (most?)
give classes and I have been more than pleased
with the ones I've done.
Their prices are not generally the lowest I have found,
but I return there because of the service.
